Matt Kassel has been hopped up on the juice. He’s been a part of the New York Red Bulls franchise since 2006, when he signed to their development academy program. Prior to the formation of the modern team, Matt was training with the Metro-Stars since his elementary school days. Matt’s dad was a director at the club since it’s debut in MLS – not a bad start for the kid. Luck’s only going to get you so far, and Matt’s already got a long list of accolades to add to his resume including being named to EPSN’s list of top high school players in 2007. After initially declining a contract with the Red Bulls, Matt played with fellow Paetra advocate Omar Gonzalez at Maryland where they lifted the 2008 College Cup together. In January 2011, the time was right and Matt joined NY as a home grown player, sharing the field with legends Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez. True to his mantra of “Be You” featured on his signature tee, Matt is relying on his grit and determination more than ever after his time with the Reb Bull ended. Matt is now training with the Charleston Battery and looking for his next chapter in the game. We’ll be supporting him every step of the way.
